Re: PV Exposed
You are pretty smart, at least that is my gut feeling. What do you say we put together a suit . If the ladies can be made to change and play B-ball at the same time as the guys , knowing the hardship it places on the smaller schools, I bet we can burn the place to the ground. It would create another cash cow for the VHSL, and all it would require would be paperwork and gate collection.

Numbers are numbers. The Division 1 schools in Region A have to meet the same criteria as Region D. The Division 1 schools in Region D might be smaller, by enrollment, but that's nobody's fault.
[/ QUOTE ]
see, that is my whole point. I think till the VHSL goes to a 4-A class the small schools in Region D will have the deck stacked against them. by your theory is was ok for the VHSL to force Pound or Rye Cove into the Divison-2 bracked against the likes of PV and Gate City.
I think the enrollment of the school you are playing in the playoffs should be somewhat close to each other and forget about this equal 1/3 they have set up now.
maybe I'm totaly wrong in my thinking and If I am someone please tell me where my thinking is flawed so I don't go around thinking we are getting the short end of the stick, because I wan't to understand
[/ QUOTE ]
I think starbuck answered your question ABN82...your thinking is not flawed starbuck...its the VHSL's thinking that is horribly flawed.

Re: PV Exposed
I agree, to a point. But, in my district, all the high schools are county high schools. The numbers reflect the students from the entire county. Look at the numbers from the BDD, Cumberland, and LPD. I know the word consolidation is taboo around Wise County, but imagine how the numbers would change. I don't think it is the VHSL's fault that there are still schools the size of Thomas Walker and Ervinton. Nobody seemed to care when Council one the VHSL hoops title. With that having been said, I do agree that there needs to be a fourth classification. But, it is for the larger AAA schools and still wouldn't benefit the little guys. Imagine 1500-1700 competing with 2700. That's the difference between a AAA school in Lynchburg or Roanoke and one in Fairfax or VA Beach. It's not a perfect world.

Re: PV Exposed
If you have 1700 in senior high, take 10 -12 , 1/2 boys you have 850 kids to work with. At Appy the figures are for 8-12. 5 years 212 by 5, 42 kids. 42 x4=168 half 84 lose 10% to grades , you have 75 kids to work with. You have 15% of Appy's total male student population on the field on every play. Now can you see my point? Screw the VHSL if the buttholes can't fix a problem as simple as another class ,4A , then they sure aren't fit to run anything else. It is as simple as that, this area doesn't have the road net to make county schools work anyway.

Why do they have to play Division 2?
[/ QUOTE ]
because of the equal 1/3 rule the VHSL has in place. But there is what is now called the Rye Cove rule. If the largest school has double the enrollment of the smallest the small school can drop a division.
Others can explain it more thea i can but that is the basic thing. The VHSL, in trying to keep the Equal 1/3 equation. Because when they build bigger schools in the East that puts more schools into the bigger school's forcing them to move schools like Rye Cove and Pound into bigger Divisions down here or something like that.

Re: PV Exposed
I agree with the problem as it pertains to football and how the division/classification system works. But, it seems to pop up only during football season. You know, there are schools in the Midwest that play 7 on 7. That's what happens to small schools out there. Say you introduce a new classification that goes from 1-750. Division 1 in this class would cover from 1-375. Division 2 would cover 375-750. How many schools in all the regions would fit into Division 1? I'll go back and look at the numbers, but I bet it ain't many. And you would exclude all the county schools. Contrary to popular belief, the new schools that are being built are in the metro areas of Richmond, Nova, and the Hampton Roads. They are already positioned to be larger AA and AAA schools. I don't think there are any new Class A schools that just sprung up. I may be wrong, but I don't think so.

Re: PV Exposed
Back in the day, if I'm not mistaken, Class A was 1-500, Class AA was 500-1000, and AAA was 1000+. At least that's how I remembered it as an athlete. That was in the mid '80's. Enrollments are going down in some areas and going up in other areas. That can't be fixed. The VHSL cannot rezone school districts to make the numbers more fair. The little guys are always going to get dumped on.
